Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) – QDVSN – Queensland Domestic Violence Services Network

The Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) is a free and confidential service for people in the Brisbane Metropolitan area who are affected by domestic and family violence. The service supports women, children, family members, same sex couples, couples without children and others.

Brisbane Domestic Violence Service works to enhance the safety of women and children through an interagency approach to support and advocacy.

We provide a range of services including:

Information and Referral:

Information about rights, options, and entitlements related to domestic and family violence.
Referrals to specialist and diverse support services.

Crisis Response Service:

Support from specialist domestic violence workers.
Risk and safety assessment.
Development of safety plans.

Practical Assistance:

Help accessing housing through referrals or advocacy.
Legal advice and representation.
Immigration advice.
Access to health services and Centrelink.
Court support at Holland Park and Richlands Magistrates Courts for Domestic Violence Protection Orders.
Financial counselling support.

Advocacy:

Support to access services and resources necessary for safety and wellbeing.
Advocacy with agencies such as:
- Queensland Police Service
- Courts
- Centrelink
- Child Safety
- Department of Housing
- Department of Immigration

Emotional Support:

Short-term, crisis-based emotional support.
Support with setting safety and wellbeing goals.
Focus on emotional health and recovery.

Provides support via: phone, online, or by visiting in the home or at a safe place in the community.
