Initiatives/programs offered

NQDVRS provides services that include:

  • Crisis counselling and support
  • Information and referral (Townsville)
  • Safety upgrade program (‘Choosing Safety’ program) – assists women and children to stay in their own homes and to feel safer, includes risk assessments; safety planning, safety audits of the homes and upgrades such as sensor lights, locks and other items can be supplied (following assessment of clients needs) – Townsville AND ‘Safe at Home’ program in Mt Isa
  • Court support advocacy service – provide support, information, and referral to appropriate agencies (both offices)
  • Domestic Violence Protection Order applications assistance
  • Domestic Violence & Homelessness (Mount Isa) – the aim of this program is to assist women and men alone, or with children escaping domestic and family violence who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • AARDVARC program for children who are exposed to domestic and family violence. The AARDVARC program is for children and young people who have experienced domestic or family violence, and their mother (individual or group program)
  • Community Education and Training (Townsville and Mt Isa) – we provide talks, information and training on domestic violence issues to individuals, groups, agencies, service providers, schools (Townsville and Mt Isa)
  • Resources
  • Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (MenTER – ‘Men Towards Equal Relationships’) – addresses their use of violence within their relationships (Townsville) AND MIMenTER Program – Mt Isa program.
  • ‘Safe Dads’ – an education and information program promoting non-violent parenting for men (Townsville) AND Mt Isa program – ‘Go Far’
  • Police referral – (Townsville and Mt Isa)
  • Safe at Home – NQDVRS workers work with the courts, police and clients to assist women and children to stay safe in their home
